Which CMS Should I Choose?

There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of content management systems available in today's marketplace. Some are produced for large-scale entreprises, others for smaller organizations - some focus on specific industries, while others are geared for certain purposes, e.g., cafe restaurant website content. The task of selecting one can be daunting, and many CMS projects never make it past the planning stage because of this challenge.

We believe the key to selecting a system lies in remembering who are your "users" (the people creating content), and who are your "customers" (the people visiting your website and "consuming" the content). We see a promising trend of discussions in the CMS world centered on this concept, and on the idea that organizations are "curators" of their websites. As such, they need the ability to not just change the content displayed, but to adjust how the content is managed by their own staff. In other words, they need a CMS that can adapt and evolve to their unique workflows and processes.

It's been argued that open-source software meets that need by allowing individuals to modify the actual source code of programs as they see fit.
